Maintenance, Operation, Research, and Radiation Zones (MORRZ)-
A Design/Operation Tool for Intelligent Buildings
with Application to the
Advanced Neutron Source (ANS)
A facility of this magnitude, both in scope and cost, must demonstrate that only essential features and requirements are included in the basic design. A value engineering study was undertaken using personnel from the Army Corps of Engineers, Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc., (MMES) and from Gilbert Commonwealth, Inc., (G/C) the design subcontractor. Many of the original candidates for cost reduction were eliminated from consideration when user requirements became known. Here the MORRZ model again demonstrated its usefulness by validating user requirements. In defining building size, individual room configuration, occupancy, contamination zoning, experiment activities, etc. all were parameters that could be extracted from MORRZ information. MORRZ was also used to query hard design requirements in support of design features.
